“It is in your moment of decisions that your destiny is shaped’’.

- Tony Robbins

I can’t agree more. The quality of our decisions defines the quality of our life because we are making decisions at every moment. Reading this blog series is a decision. Keeping away from negative thoughts is a decision; Waking up at the desired time is a decision; Avoiding junk food and getting fitter is a decision; Giving time to your family is a decision. Standing up for yourself is a decision; Following your passion is a decision; Using a mobile phone is a decision; Spending time on social media is a decision; Earning more money is a decision; Improving the quality of your life is a decision. We are making decisions every moment. Look at your life today. You are the product of all the decisions that you have made in your life to date.

Even though decisions are so important, people face great difficulties while making important decisions. Why? Here are some of the reasons.

1. We have never made any decisions.

During our childhood, our parents rightly made all the decisions for us, and that was fair. However, in many cases, this practice continues even after we have grown up. Reasons for this can be anything. Our parents want to protect us, or they don’t trust us with our judgment. Maybe we haven’t done enough to earn the credibility to be entrusted with important decisions. The result is. We never make decisions on our own.

2. We keep getting confused.

It is okay if we are confused about the options that we have before making the decision. However, we have the habit of visiting and revisiting the parameters of the decision we have already made. We keep pondering to the extent that we start having second thoughts, and we remain confused.

3. We are not ready to take ownership.

We do not want to take responsibility for consequences if the outcome of our decision is not in our favor. We are happy to allow someone else to make decisions on our behalf because, if something goes wrong, we have someone to blame.

4. We regret our past decisions.

Have you ever wished that you would be in a lot better position in your life if you had taken option A over option B? Have you ever pondered again and again and regretted a decision that you made? It happens with all of us, and we have realized the damages that a wrong decision can cause. This guilt can cripple our ability to make decisions.

The combination of one or more of the above does not allow us to make decisions in our lives. Now comes the main question. How to shift this? How can one make solid decisions?

Step No 1. Know yourself

The essential requirement for making good decisions is to know yourself extremely well. You need to identify what matters to you the most. Why? Because decisions are always subjective to the person who is making the decision. What may be right for you can be wrong for me. What worked for someone else may not work for us.

Step No 2. Understand your vision

While making decisions, we should try to understand all the positives and negatives of a decision, and for that, we may consult with people. However, if you want to be an entrepreneur and build your empire, you cannot rely much on people whose vision is to stay in a job for the rest of their lives. Hence, it is essential to understand what is your vision of your life.

Step No 3. Have the right mindset

You got to have the right mindset to wake up early and hit the gym or give extra 2 hours every day to your new venture. Your mind cannot tell you that you have never done it before, and you will not be able to do it in the future. You have to program your mind to give your 150% to the decision that you have made.

Step No 4. Have the right surrounding

Every time you may not be in a position to guide yourself well. And that is okay. However, getting off your track is not okay. Hence, it becomes essential to surround yourself with people who push you to your limits and not let you drop your intensity.

Step No 5. Take ownership

There is nothing like right or wrong decisions. You have to make your decision right. Everything goes well, congratulations. Something goes the other way, then take the responsibility. Ask yourself if you gave your 150% commitment to the decision you had made. If not, then do it. If yes, then take the lessons and move on. You can not go out to find excuses to justify you not getting what you had desired.
